Commercial Geothermal Services in Toronto, ON
Have you thought about using the power of the earth to heat and cool your building? Switching from a standard commercial heat pump to a commercial ground source heating system has many long-term and short-term benefits. These are “boilerless” and “towerless” heat pump systems that harness the natural thermal energy of the earth to either draw heat into buildings or to serve as a place to deposit it. Their incredible energy efficiency will lower your annual costs, and they are environmentally friendly as well.

How Ground Source Cooling and Heating Works
The basic way that geothermal heat pumps work is through a series of loops that are buried 6’ or deeper into the ground, where they can access a stable temperature unaffected by surface weather conditions. These loops are made from high–density and durable polyethylene. An anti–freeze mixture moves through the loops to either draw heat from the ground or to deposit it, depending on which mode the heat pump is in (heating or cooling). The anti–freeze mixture then enters a heat exchanger connected to the indoor heat pump, which distributes cooled or heated air through ductwork.
We Install Commercial Geothermal Heat Pumps
Geothermal loops come in different configurations, which makes them flexible and easily adapted to many types of businesses and available spaces. Loops can be installed under landscaped areas, parking lots, or other spots.
- Horizontal loops are the most cost–effective configuration. They sit in shallow trenches around 6’ deep, and are used in open fields, parks, and parking lots.
- If there is less space, vertical loops are an option. The loops are sent down into bore holes dug to an average depth of 250’ and grouted with a Bentonite mixture to improve thermal conductivity.
- There are also "open loop" systems, or ground water systems, which don’t circulate the same anti–freeze but instead pump the water from a nearby well or natural body of water, and it’s then discharged into another well or body of water.
The Benefits of Commercial Geothermal Installations
The government studies have ranked commercial geothermal systems as the most cost–effective space conditioning systems available. They have the lowest lifecycle–cost of any system on the market. The reasons are simple: extreme longevity (the ground loops can last for more than 50 years and come with a 25–year or longer warranty), improved performance, and high energy efficiency that pays back the initial installation cost over a short period of time. Geothermal systesm are a good choice for commercial heating and air conditioning in Toronto, ON.
Another benefit of commercial geothermal installation is that it doesn’t affect the architectural design of a building. The key heating and cooling components of the system are down in the ground, and the indoor components take up little room. There’s no need for a cooling tower or a boiler.
